TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE FIRST COAST TO RESEARCH, PREPARE AND PRESENT A LOGICAL AND CONVINCING ORAL ARGUMENT THAT DEMONSTRATES THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF A CHOSEN TOPIC AND TO REWARD THOSE STUDENTS WITH COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS.

ROTARY ORATORY COMPETITION

Every year the Rotary Club of South Jacksonville invites one senior from each of the 45 high schools on Florida’s First Coast (Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties) to participate in the Rotary Oratory Competition for the opportunity to win college scholarship money.  Participants are given a topic and asked to research, gather supporting data and make an oral presentation. Contestants are assigned to regional competitions held by area Rotary Clubs with winners of those contests advancing to the final competition at the WJCT-TV studios. The final competition is recorded live and aired for viewing at a later date. Regional winners and finalists are all awarded scholarship money.
